Commissions

The textiles you own should be loved and should reflect YOU. I use natural fibres to create high quality handwoven pieces that also respect the planet. A handwoven piece or collection is made to order, using heritage techniques meaning small runs of beautiful handwoven pieces can be sustainably made.

Commissions and custom orders are subject to communications with me. There is limited availability across the year and bookings will need to be agreed in advance (usually a minimum of three months).

Start with inspiration

The client chooses their inspiration: it could be a story, a photo, a painting or even a place.

The design stage

The client and weaver exchange ideas until the weaver has enough information to design the client’s commission.

Obtaining yarns

I will need to obtain/create yarns for the project. Usually 50% of costs are due at this point.

Weaving can begin

Once the yarns are ready, weaving can commence in the chosen month. Usually pieces will be woven within one month but a collection will take longer. I will keep you updated throughout.

Your commission

When the piece or collection has been woven and taken off the loom it will be hand finished so that it is ready to use as soon as it arrives with the client.

How much will it cost?

The bespoke nature of handweaving means it is hard to give a general price guide. A client commissioning a work can pick the width, length, fibre content, weave pattern, weight of fabric and more.

When you approach me with your ideas I will be clear and transparent from the outset with regard to costs.

What fibres can I choose?

I mainly work with wool but there are many fibre choices available. I keep lots in stock but sometimes fibres have to be sourced or created.

What about the ‘drape’?

I mostly work on an 8 shaft floor loom. Combined with the fibres and density chosen the weave pattern can change the over all feel and behaviour of the fabric and I will suggest patterns based on the client’s needs during the design process.
